Trappers AAA Roundup

Minor Bantam

The Savignac Minor Bantam AAA Trappers finished their triple header vs Nickel City this past weekend with 2 wins and a loss. The Trappers have had a long rivalry with their Sudbury area counterparts, dating back to Novice AA. The games between the 2 teams have always been fast and exciting, and this past weekend was no exception.
The Trappers won game one 3 to 1. Reece Proulx was strong in net – and had to be as the Trappers piled up 36 minutes in penalties. Eric Lafontaine, Joe Jordan and Pacey Schlueting lit the lamp, with assists going to Jack Stockfish (2) and Ethan Masson.
Nickel City game out very strong in game 2, and scored 3 times in the first 12 minutes. The Trappers picked up the pace, but found themselves down 4-0 in the middle of the second period. Cailen Hanzlik didn’t get much help from the team, but shut the door the rest of the way and gave her team a chance. Nat Lalonde started the North Bay comeback, scoring short-handed to make it 4-1. Ethan Masson scored an early 3rd period goal on a power play, with a great assist from Joe Jordan. Lalonde struck again minutes later, with the assists coming from Masson and Jackson Buffam. That was as close as the team got, despite a great third period, losing 4 to 3.
Game 3 on Sunday saw the Trappers take an early lead, with Jordan scoring on the first shift with a wrap around. Minutes later Steph Philion and Rory Shaughnessy provided great pressure on the fore-check, and Tyson Bradford was able drill a slap shot in to make it 2-1. Jesse Kirkby scored the 3rd goal, finishing a great shift with Jordan and Stockfish. Bradford then scored his second goal of the weekend, tipping a shot from the point from Brody Belanger. Stockfish was sent in alone on a breakaway as he came out of the penalty box, as Jordan fed him a perfect pass, and scored the Trapper’s fifth goal. Jordan scored his second goal of the game, getting assists from Stockfish and Shaughnessy. Cole Goode scored the 7thgoal of the game, with an assist from Pacey Schlueting. Final score 7 to 2. Reece Proulx with another strong effort in net.
Next up – The team looks to defend their title at the Hamilton Bulldogs Reebok Classic Dec 4th to 6th.
