TRAPPERS ROUNDUP October 20, 2015
Trappers AAA Roundup
BDI Minor Peewee AAA Trappers winless in the Soo
The BDI Minor Peewee AAA Trappers travelled to Sault Ste Marie this past weekend for 3 league games against the undefeated Greyhounds.
In game one the Trappers kept it close against the tough Greyhound squad, but had difficulties playing 3 solid periods resulting in a 5-1 loss. Caelan McAuliffe was busy making several solid saves along the way. Patrick Etmanski had the lone goal for North Bay.
The second game saw the Greyhounds cruise to a 6-1 victory as the Trappers played with a short bench due to injuries. Andrew Robillard was tested often and played a strong game for the Trappers despite the loss.
On Sunday morning the Trappers were a changed team playing a tough, aggressive brand of hockey frustrating the Greyhounds with their tight checking and strong team play in all three zones.
Chase Lefebvre gave the Trappers the lead mid way through the first, only to have the Soo team respond with the tying marker in the last minute of play in the first period.
The second period was a scoreless event with both teams exchanging numerous scoring chances while Trapper goalie Caelan McAuliffe made several point blank stops to keep the game tied at one heading to the intermission.
The third period was a continuation of the third as McAuliffe remained hot in the pipes and the Trapper penalty kill was sharp on a couple of key penalty kills. Despite the Trapper efforts, the relentless Greyhounds managed to get the winning goal with a little over two minutes remaining giving them a 2-1 victory.
The Trappers’ coaches are very encouraged with this latest effort and look forward to the teams participation this weekend in the West Ferris Early Bird Tournament being held in North Bay.
